Recommended Books
Electrophysiology, EEG, Diagnosis:
Klinische Elektroenzephalographie(Gebundene Ausgabe) von Stephan Zschocke, H. C. Hansen; Springer, Berlin; 2. Auflage (August 2002)
THE book of electro-encephalography per se. All the basics of EEG, diverse pathologies and even technological aspects are covered elaborately. It costs expensive 160,- Euros but is the No. 1 reference of the whole area.
Leitfaden für die EEG-Praxis. Ein Bildkompendium(Taschenbuch) von Mitsuru Ebe, Isako Homma; Urban & Fischer bei Elsevier; 3. Auflage (März 2002)
This is another recommended book that includes basic information on EEG, which has a lot of examples of diverse pathologies. It is has a favorable price to "Klinische Elektroenzephalographie", but has less detailed information and approx. half the pages. Also, there are not as many areas touched as in the book from Stephan Zschocke.
Einführung in die klinische Neurophysiologie. EMG - EEG - Evozierte Potentiale(Gebundene Ausgabe) von Manfred Stöhr, Regina Kraus; Steinkopff; 1. Auflage (April 2002)
Whoever is interested in other possibilities of neurophysiology, apart from the EEG, is well served with this book. The subject of EEG is still covered in a sufficient measure.
Neurofeedback, Biofeedback:
So far there is no really good and comprehensive German book on the topic of neurofeedback. It is implicitly advisable to read one of the recommended Englisch books. Along with "Getting Started with Neurofeedback" there is also the "Handbook of Neurofeedback" which are both suited for beginners. We recommend the book "Introduction to Quantitative EEG and Neurofeedback: Advanced Theory and Applications" for advanced users.
We do NOT recommend the books "Gehirn-Training mit EEG-Neurofeedback" by Roy J. Vasanta, nor "Protokoll Leitfaden für Neurofeedback Therapeuten" by Susan Othmer. These books only represent own experience of the authors without any sort of scientifical basis, that have bloodcurdling theories and rudiments. These books are certainly not listed here, but you will stumble over them at Amazon etc.
Getting Started with Neurofeedback(Gebundene Ausgabe) von John N. Demos; W W Norton & Co Ltd (Januar 2005)
A book recommended as an introduction into the subject which describes neurofeedback in overall terms. You can find a nice overview over all possibilities neurofeedback has to offer. The book is relatively up to date, but not on the cutting edge of current research. Since it costs only 30,- Euro we call it a set book.
Handbook of Neurofeedback: Dynamics and Clinical Applications(Taschenbuch) von James R. Evans; Informa Healthcare; Auflage: 1 (Oktober 2007)
This book equally qualifies as a good introduction to the topic of neurofeedback. It offers a good overview and is researched well. One should decide between "Getting Started with Neurofeedback" and this book, since they are similar in a lot of aspects. The "Handbook of Neurofeedback" is a little more up to date but also doubled in price. It is therefore a matter of taste if the investment is worthwhile. Our favourite book is "Getting Started with Neurofeedback" for the first purchase.
Introduction to Quantitative EEG and Neurofeedback: Advanced Theory and Applications(Gebundene Ausgabe) von Thomas H. Budzynski; Academic Press; Auflage: 2nd edition. (9. Januar 2009)
If you have already made experience with the theoretical and practical side of neurofeedback, you should very much reed this book. It provides an elaborate insight in well-known subjects that relate to neurofeedback and also picks up new rudiments as pain, Asperger syndrome, depression, addiction and many others. It is very well researched and has high-quality contributions from current analysis. It costs 60,- but we consider that cheap for a fundamental book for advanced neurofeedback-users.
Biofeedback-Therapie(Gebundene Ausgabe) von Winfried Rief, Niels Birbaumer; Schattauer; 2. Auflage (April 2006)
This book is considered a good reference on the subject of biofeedback and touches on almost all the posibilities, biofeedback has to offer. But the aspect of neurofeedback is only a small part in the book. In consideration of the fact that neurofeedback and biofeedback distinguish only in different physiological parameters, I recommend this book to everyone because it really gives a good overview over all methods of "feedback". It is also written pretty much up to date.
Biofeedback. Ein Handbuch für die therapeutische Praxis(Taschenbuch) von Timon Bruns, Nina Praun; Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht (April 2002)
This book is warmly recommended for every newcomer concering biofeedback and neurofeedback. All methods of biofeedback are shortly described and have very nice examples of application, whom everyone can relate to. Neurofeedback is also mentioned together with the example of ADHD. Unfortunately, this book is a little out of date since many new discoveries were made after the year of 2002. Nevertheless it is a good book for starters and is worth every cent of the 30, Euros. Unfortunately it is not in stock lately. Sometimes Amazon offers used copies though. If you are lucky enough to find one you should definitely buy it, this book is very treasured amongst the neurofeedback community.
Biofeedback: A Practitioner's Guide(Gebundene Ausgabe) von Mark S. Schwartz, Frank Andrasik; Guilford Press; 3. Auflage (August 2003)
For the sake of science and research, we also recommend this compendium. Although it is slightly out of date, it offers a nice stock of basic, well researched sources on the subject of biofeedback.
